Bentancur, who made racist remarks to Son Heung-min, is likely to be suspended

Rodrigo Bentancur, who made racist remarks to Tottenham teammate Son Heung-min, is expected to be suspended for up to 12 games.

"The English Football Association (FA) has charged Bentancur with violating related regulations for making racist remarks during an interview with Uruguayan media," adding, "Bentancur's remarks are a serious violation because they include references to nationality, race, and ethnicity."

"Bentancur acted in an inappropriate way and made insulting remarks," the FA said in a statement. "This case constitutes a aggravated violation because there are references to the country, race, and ethnicity." According to the BBC, the FA's disciplinary committee stipulates that players' individual racism be suspended from six to 12 games.

Bentancur appeared on Uruguay's television network ahead of his participation in the 2024 Copa America in June. When the host asked Bentancur to get him a uniform, she smiled and said, "You won't know even if you bring him your cousin's uniform. They (Son Heung-min and his cousin) are pretty much the same."

Bentancur's remarks are considered a representative act of racism toward Asians along with "eye tearing" with the nuance that "all Asians look the same." For this reason, Bentancur's remarks were strongly criticized, and Bentancur publicly apologized to Son Heung-min. Tottenham seemed to be conscious of the cold public opinion of Korean fans, and in July, Bentancur was excluded from the away list when he visited Korea for a friendly match for the Coupang Play Series.  파워볼사이트
